Our mission

Black music has always been more than sound.

It has been a mirror of history, a shield in our struggles, and a map toward our future.

The vision

A platform built around ownership, culture and opportunity.

Black August Music is being built as a dedicated home for music that reflects Black creativity, dignity, strength, excellence, history and cultural contribution.

When we uplift the sound of our people, we uplift the destiny of our people too.

Black August Music was created to shift the culture by redefining what success looks like in Black music.

We believe Black ownership is power. When Black communities control the music they produce, promote, and profit from, they also control the message being sent to future generations.

Our vision is an ethical Black-owned music industry that supports artists using hip hop, pop, jazz, soul and R&B to inspire confidence, Black cultural pride and social awareness.

Ethical leadership

No million-dollar salaries.

We put our mission above personal wealth. The maximum salary for any Black August Music employee or executive is capped at $250,000, so executive pay never dilutes our ability to serve Black youth. Once we’re operating, we’ll publish regular updates on progress and how funds are being used.

Future vision

Beyond the music.

Music is just the beginning. As our subscriber base grows, Black August Music will expand into media that shapes minds, celebrates Black history, and sparks imagination — including Black culturally-centered films, cartoons for Black children, and documentaries.
